RIVER USK PRIVATE FISHING

OVERVIEW; WHAT’S ON OFFER?

This is an exclusive beat to Fishing-Wales. No day or season tickets are sold for this prime section of the River Usk, making it a very sought after piece of water. It is located between Sennybridge and Brecon and comprises of around 1.5 miles of double bank fishing in total.

There are an extremely limited number of guided days allowed on the beat each season, with Steffan Jones being the only guide permitted to operate on the water. You cannot fish before / after your session with Steffan – you must remain accompanied by him at all times.

A maximum of two anglers per day are permitted onto the beat.

The season runs from the 3rd of March through to 30th of September.

Fly Fishing only and strictly ‘Catch & Release’.

THE BEAT

This exclusive section of water has everything a trout angler would desire. A myriad of runs, riffles, and pocket water that can be nymphed or explored with a dry / dropper, through to some of the best dry fly sections to be found on the Usk; beautiful glides and pools that hold a healthy population of wild brown trout.

Being such a private beat and having a limited amount of guided days per season, angling pressure is extremely low, making it a rare treat in general on the Usk nowadays. As a result, the 1.5-mile double bank section does become a sanctuary. This does not make the fishing or the fish easy, but perhaps easier than neighbouring sections of the river – they are wild fish, so you still have to adopt the usual stealth and patience.

2021 will be the inaugural season for fishing to be offered on this beat. Again, overall number of days will be limited, so please enquire early to avoid disappointment. Late-April through to Late-June will see the cream of the fishing.

To cover the water a fair amount of walking is needed, so please take this into account. Some water can be reached within a minute or so of the car, but then there are sections that will take 15 – 20 minutes to reach. The river changes in character a lot between the upper and lower sections, so it is often worth the walk.

THE COST

Guiding on the beat is exclusively by Steffan Jones. General costs of the guiding service along with what it includes can be found HERE.

The cost of a day to include the fishing and lunch is £480 for a single rod and £740 for two rods (£370 each).
